1. Development of nano-structured materials
알루미늄, 마그네슙 등 경량금속의 구조를 나노 단위로 미세화하고 풀러린(fullerene), 탄소나노튜브(carbon nanotubes), 그래핀(graphene) 등 다양한 나노 크기의 물질과 복합화함으로써, 자동차/우주ㆍ항공 분야에 응용할 수 있는 고강도 경량금속 복합소재를 제조하고 있습니다.

소재의 미세구조가 나노 구조가 됨에 따라 기존의 이론으로 설명하기 어려운 새로운 특성의 발현, 다양한 기능성의 향상(multi-functionality) 등을 평가하고 그 원인을 분석하는 연구를 진행하고 있습니다.

3. Engineering scalable energy materials
차세대 에너지원으로 각광받고 있는 태양전지의 상용화를 앞당기기 위해, 결정질 실리콘의 전위(dislocation)와 불순물(impurity) 등의 결함을 제어함으로써, 태양전지의 효율을 향상시키는 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 또한, 염료감응대양전지 혹은 연료전지의 전극 소재로 사용될 수 있는 개방형 다공체를 개발하고 있습니다.
